removing asbestos roof

If you are considering have asbestos roof removal done on your home, you may be wondering just how long the process will take, and more particularly, whether you will need to leave your home for a few days. In Brisbane, asbestos roof removal can take anywhere from one day to a couple of days, depending on what type of roof you are replacing your old one with.

The process leading up to removing your roof can take some time, as it requires an inspection of the roof, which will provide a really good overview of the work that needs to be done, how much asbestos needs to be disposed of (for those homes with mixed material roofing), and how long the work should take.

We would also need to inform QLD Workplace Health and Safety of the removal of an asbestos product at least five days prior to doing the work, notify your neighbours if they are in close proximity, and advise Energex of work being done, organising the temporary disconnection of power if required.

Once this part of the job is done, we can get onto removing the roof.

Asbestos roof removal isn’t as easy as just removing the roof sheets and throwing them down onto the ground. Each roof sheet needs to be stacked and wrapped prior to transporting to a licensed facility for disposal. Once remove, the area needs to be cleaned and inspected to ensure there are no asbestos particles left behind.

If you are planning on replacing your old asbestos roof with a new Colorbond roof, depending on the size of your home, this can usually be done quickly. This means you won’t need to spend days away from your home in an uncomfortable motel or on a family member’s couch.
